Brinke Stevens

"Jonah Lives" (2012)

Brinke Stevens is probably one of the most famous scream queens of our time with 137 movies to her name, including: The Slumber Party Massacre, Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity, Tales from the Darkside, Eyes Are Upon You, The Boneyard Collection, to name a few. I recently had the pleasure of doing a short interview with Brinke!

1. What was your favorite thing to dress up as for Halloween in childhood?

The first costume that I can recall was a sparkly Princess dress, with one of those full-face plastic masks of a blonde 'Sleeping Beauty'-type. My mother bought it for me, of course. Little did she realize that even at age six, I gravitated more toward the evil queen in fairy tales, such as Maleficent. As soon as I was older, I began wearing more appropriate Halloween attire, i.e. sexy black stuff!

2. What is your favorite horror movie and why?

As films go, I've always liked "Evil Dead" and "The Dead Zone". Lately, I've been watching more TV-shows on DVD, such as "American Horror Story", which I thought was excellent. And although none of these would be considered "horror", I was also impressed by "Once Upon a Time", plus the sci-fi series "Fringe" and BBC's "Sherlock" about a modern-day Sherlock Holmes. The high caliber of acting and amazing special effects on television has become SO good.

3.Who are your favorite horror movie actors/actresses?

Christopher Walken is peerless, such a wonderful character actor. As for actresses, I never tire of watching Debbie Rochon and Linnea Quigley in everything they do.

4.  What is your favorite movie you have acted in & why?

Back in the 1990s, I felt "Haunting Fear" was my best performance; I survived till the end, playing a woman who was slowly being driven insane by her con-artist husband. I had the pleasure of working with Jan-Michael Vincent and Karen Black on it, too. More recently, I had meaty roles in Jason Paul Collum's "Safe Inside", and also Joe Hollow's "Disciples". Last year, I wrote, directed, and starred in "Personal Demons", so I have to say that's been my absolute favorite movie so far. I played a horror actress who accidentally summons up a real demon while rehearsing a movie script.

5. As a child who did you idolize?

When I was very young, my mother took me to see my first theatrical movie, which I think was called "The Snow Queen". Forget about identifying with the young boy and girl heroes... I wanted to be that beautiful Queen! As mentioned, I've idolized the well-dressed bad girls for as long as I can remember.

6. Any current projects?

Last year, I starred in 10 films, including "Axeman at Cutter's Creek" (playing a tough small-town Sheriff), "Head Cases" (as a serial killer's mother), and "Jonah Lives" (a murderous party-girl). So far this year, I've shot "Die Sister Die!" and the webizode "Silicon Assassin", in which I played the President of the United States. That one was truly exceptional, and should be available on-line in a few months.
