CHUCK WILLIAMS

(Azmyth Kaminski, Chuck Williams and Matt Lasky on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.)

Chuck Williams is a writer, producer, actor, director in California.  He's been associated with a lot of movies including a few of my favorites: (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Bubba Ho-Tep, The Vampire Hunter's Club (actors in all three) and Halloween... The Happy Haunting of America! (producer)) I've never had the pleasure of meeting Chuck in person but I hope to one of these days! Enjoy the interview..

1. What was your favorite thing to dress up as for Halloween in childhood?

That is simple....my mom bought me a Don Post "Phantom of the Opera" latex mask. I got "Years of Scares" out of that mask and dressing up like a monster.

2. What is your favorite horror movie and why?

Ohh, tough question...I have a lot of favorites for a lot of different reasons...but really, my first scary movie to me

was "The Wizard of Oz" That witch and flying monkeys made me always cringe....(laughs)

3. Who are your favorite horror movie actors/actresses?

Lon Chaney, Bela Lugosi, Linda Blair, Jack Nicholson and Anthony Hopkins.

4. Is there any particular monster that fascinates you?

Of course...I love Monsters...Frankenstein Monster, Godzilla, Jeepers Creepers and of course the Dark Walker..(laughs)

5. You've been in quite a few horror movies. Which one was your favorite & why?

That is a tough question too...All my films are my babies...but I will always be grateful for "Soul Taker" for the Syfy Channel..it was my first film that I co-starred in.

6. Who did you idolize as a child?

Elvis Presley, my mom Laura, knew him and took me to Grace Land when I was a child...never forget that.

7. What was it like working on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides?

One of the greatest times in my life...Great cast and crew..It was a huge production...We shot in Hawaii and at the back lot at Universal Studios. Needless to say, Johnny Depp rocks...One of the nicest guys that I have ever worked with.

8.You were in one of my favorite movies, Bubba Ho-Tep. What was it like working on that film? Any funny stories from filming?

Loved Bubba Ho-Tep...In my book, Don Coscarelli is one of the best Directors/Writers in the business...and who doesn't love Bruce Campbell...He is the "King"

9.What made you decide to do Halloween... The Happy Haunting of America!, another favorite of mine?

When I was a young, I loved going to Haunted Attractions and being scarred. So, when I had the chance to travel across America and visit the greatest Haunts in the country putting together a segment for Entertainment Tonight, I thought it would be a great idea to do it again and put it out on video. So my buddies Daniel Roebuck and Bob Burns, who I traveled the first time with, did a road trip with camera in hand and shot some of the scariest and best haunts in the country.

10. Do you like acting or producing better?

Acting...always have and always will...Producing is tough...no matter how you slice it...it is really hard work...and yes, I love it, but again, you can be on a film for two years trying to get it in the can and out to people to see.

11.What do you feel makes a good horror/thriller movie?

A great script and a great director...you don't have those two elements...I don't care what kind of film you are making. I think nowadays we try to push suspense and blood & guts down people throats. I just don't think that works anymore. I mean, come on...one of the best Directors that ever lived in this genre was Alfred Hitchcock. He was the master.

12. Why do you think that people enjoy being scared?

They like the "Unknown" the suspense...or as my friends in the industry would say...Scaring movies make great "Date Movies" I mean, come on, what guy doesn't love a girl holding onto him in a dark crowded theater. One of the greatest scariest movies of all time was Dracula and it was released on Valentines Day.

13. Any current projects?

Yes, now out on DVD is "John Dies at the End" with Paul Giamatti...great film...go check it out.
